How To Tell Someone Bad News?

How To Tell Someone Bad News?

Bad news seems to become more and more common every day. Sometimes it appears too sudden, and sometimes I am convinced that this will happen sooner or later. The loss of a loved one who has a serious illness is a common example. Although it can be hurtful, it seems relatively "easy" to tell the other person the death, or bad news, in this situation.

However, in other situations, the death of a loved one is completely unexpected, in which case you don't know how to tell others about it. Accidents, assaults, or natural disasters are examples of situations where our world collapses in an instant. After a while, someone very dear and important to us dies.

No one wants to experience this, but unfortunately, it appears everywhere in life. The problem is knowing how to face these situations, how to tell others what happened to them, and how to do so.  As you continue reading this article, here are some tips on how to communicate this bad news.

“History is just an infinite catastrophe in which we try to do the best we can.” –  Calvino

How do you feel when you have to share bad news?

Spreading bad news is very complicated. In addition to having to go through very hard times, we really feel terrible. Because we are concerned not only about our feelings for the deceased but also about the people we are trying to share the bad news with.

We are afraid they will get hurt. Despite trying to reach them in the best way possible, it still worries us. Besides, you never know how people who hear bad news will react.  They may blame us or treat us badly for what happened. It all depends on the individual's ability to cope. As messengers, we should not react personally.
