What is already known about the Vaccine against Covid-19?

Vaccines have saved many lives throughout history, and by 2020, everyone is looking forward to the formula that can solve the Covid-19 problem. A vaccine is made up of the virus or bacteria that causes the disease, but dead or extremely weakened. Thus, the body creates immunity without having to have contact with the disease.

Today, there are six tests worldwide that seek to achieve the vaccine against Covid. In this post, we will talk about each one of them and you will understand why finding a vaccine is the best solution to the problem. See below!

Which vaccine against Covid-19 will come out first in Brazil?

There are currently 163 vaccines against Covid being tested worldwide, but only six of them are at an advanced stage. All six of these vaccines are in phase 3 testing, which means they will be tested on thousands of people to have their performance proven on a large scale.

Oxford-AstraZeneca

In the United Kingdom, the University of Oxford joined the AstraZeneca laboratory to work towards a vaccine. It was even pointed out by the World Health Organization (WHO) as one of the most promising against the coronavirus and tested in Brazil, by about two thousand volunteers in the health area.

Sinovac

In China, the Sinovac laboratory has achieved positive results in the development of the vaccine against Covid. In a test with 600 participants, 90% of them had an immune response. It has also been tested in Brazil, in partnership with the Butantan Institute.

Sinopharm

Also developed in China, the Sinopharm vaccine against Covid carried out its first tests on 1,120 volunteers and all of them developed an immune response after 28 days of application. In phase 3, it will be tested in the United Arab Emirates.

Modern

The Moderna laboratory in the United States did not release much data or attest to the effectiveness of its vaccine. But the tests entered phase 3, in which about 30,000 volunteers were expected to receive the first dose.

CanSino

The CanSino vaccine follows a proposal similar to the Oxford vaccine and has already shown very encouraging results in phase 2. The immunity rate has exceeded 90% and even Brazil entered the list of countries that can participate in the tests in phase 3.

Gamaleya

Developed in Russia, this vaccine against Covid was one of the most mysterious, with accelerated processes and promising results at all stages. Even without disclosing much data, Russia has already started producing the first batches.

Is the vaccine the only way to control the pandemic?

Every pandemic has a life cycle that depends on the care taken by the population, but it can end before its natural cycle. To solve the problem, there are two possible ways: herd immunization or vaccine.

In herd immunization, 70% of the population needs to become infected and cure the disease for it to be controlled. This immunization happens naturally over time, but the possibility of betting on it on purpose has been considered.

The big problems are the number of deaths and the hospital chaos that would have to be assumed to bet on this solution. Therefore, the development of a vaccine against Covid-19 is still the safest and most effective way to solve the problem.

What is the forecast for the vaccine against Covid-19 in Brazil?

Even with advanced tests, the WHO estimate is that the vaccine will not be available this year. It is expected to be distributed in the first quarter of 2021, which is still a historic milestone for science.

Until then, it is essential to continue investing in protective equipment and personal care, such as washing hands, using alcohol gel, avoiding crowds, and going out when it is really necessary.

The vaccine against Covid-19 is already a reality and should arrive when the pandemic is slowing down worldwide. However, to reach this place, it is necessary to continue investing in all the care we took during the year.
